AUGUST ANGST
It is that time of year when the summer is nearing an end that the panic of having to return to work sets in! Next summer will be the last time that I have to endure that sensation, though! That is difficult to comprehend. I guess that’s ‘cuz the closer it gets the farther away it seems! The heat of this summer has been difficult to endure as well, so much of the summer has been spent reading and knitting vs. out of doors.
This weekend we had a delightful visit (albeit quick) from Adam and Abbey who arrived here on Saturday afternoon and departed for NJ on Sunday. They had time for washing clothes, car and a dinner at Agatina’s! It was delicious as usual and we were all famished because it was the first time that not one of us took a doggie bag with any leftovers home!
Our trip to the NASCAR race at Watkins Glen began with a 4 am wake up call. We were headed for the Glen by 6:30 am and in line to get into the section 5 parking area at 8:30 am! Considering that the race didn’t start until 1:30 pm so that left us with a bit of time to kill. Aaron and I realized right away what we were supposed to bring…a deck of cards…I remembered sending him on a search for a deck of NASCAR cards last year when we realized how long we had to amuse ourselves until race time! NEXT YEAR! We spent our pre and race time in the Kodak Pavillion where they served both breakfast treats and lunch. It also was in close proximity to the most luxurious bathrooms on site…luxurious porta-potties! Abbey was so mesmerized by them that she left her purse in there and when she realized it and raced back to look for it, a worker who had it (another race attendee had given it to him) went after Abbey swinging it in the air so that she’d recognize it! WHEW! That was a close call! Adam and Abbey ran into rainstorms on their return to NJ while we just had gentle rain on our return. It was great to see Adam and Abbey but just wish that it could have been less hectic. Tony Stewart won the race, BTW!
